The Safe and Sound Protocol is an evidence-based, non-invasive type of music therapy that is designed to support nervous system regulation.

"... literally since the day he started listening to it, his behaviour has improved drastically. It’s been great to see him being able to be more rational and calm, even in argumentative situations or if something doesn’t go his way."

How it works

The Safe and Sound Protocol program is primarily done at home. It's best if it's done for consecutive days in as little as 10min however the practitioner will work with you directly to tailor the treatment plan to yours/your child’s nervous system and overall goals. You will be supported by your practitioner throughout the listening experience.

Some recommendations for ensuring the smooth delivery of the program:

Set up the app on a device easily accessible to your child on a daily basis. Your child could be listening solo or you can join them or sit with them, you can decide that based on what works for your family. I would suggest having a parent nearby for the first listening time incase the child has questions or needs support.

The music in the program is familiar songs however it has been filtered to hit the sound waves therapeutically so people tend to notice that effect. There is also a Classical music option for people who prefer not to have lyrics.

Physical set up:

The ideal would be sitting/lying down and listening. They may want a stuffy or fidget and that would be fine. No playing, reading, gaming, or anything more active as it would impact the therapeutic value.

Over-the-ear headphones (not pods) and a quiet space for listening are ideal conditions. Many people have had success incorporating the listening into their bedtime routine however the time of day has some flexibility so can be set to meet your family’s needs. Headphones can be borrowed from the practitioner if needed.

It is a total of 5 listening hours so depending on the interval in which you listen, it can take a few weeks to complete.
